The Living Water: Jesus and the Woman at the Well

"The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters."
Psalm 29:3

Good morning ladies! Let's begin this study with prayer...
Heavenly Father, we come here today to thank You for the Living Water that You have given us. We thank You for giving us Your word to quench our thirst and our longing for that eternal satisfaction found only through You.
In Jesus' name.......amen.

The picture above is of the Tigris river which runs through Iraq today but long ago it ran through the Garden of Eden.
Hard to imagine isn't it?
The Lord preserved this river over the years. Look at the lands around the waters and try to imagine what the land looked like when there was no sin in the world. Just imagine..........
Welcome to this study! I am so glad you could join me as we venture deeper into God's word to learn about the Living Water: Jesus Christ.
For those of you joining me for the first time, our format is easy to follow:
I will post a lesson each day which will have scripture for you to look up, so make sure you have your Bible near by.
Then I will also include a "life application" segment which shows us how we can apply what we learn in the Bible to our daily lives.
You can print out each lesson and complete it at your own leisure.
You may also comment after each lesson about what you have learned or share any insights with the group as you wish.
I find this format is very easy to follow especially for those of you with little ones at home! I know it is hard to find the time to go to a Bible study away from home, so that is why the Lord put it on my heart to share here on my blog.

In this study............
We will look at the Samaritan woman at the well found in John 4, but we will also look at what scripture says about water.
The Hebrew word for water is "mayim" and it means literally water.
But in Genesis 2:10, the word used there is "shaqah" and it means irrigation or cause to drink....like a river.
Water is found prominently throughout scripture. It is used in several ways:
For moistening, irrigation, drinking, and washing.
It is used for dividing lands, growing crops, for protection and as a symbol for the bitterness of sins. Water is also used as a symbol for God's blessings and also for His wrath.
Please read:
Psalm 65:9
Lamentations 1:16
Water is also used for repentance and healing.
Please read:
Matt 3:11
John 5:3
During this study, we will see how God uses water in His word for many reasons. But mostly, He uses water to bring us to see His Son: Jesus as who He really is.
Jesus chooses to meet the Samaritan woman for a reason. We will learn what that reason is and how it affects our lives today.
We will look at what rivers mean in the Bible and what the sea means as well.
We will study what Jesus meant when He called Himself the "Living water" and how it applies to us today.
I am excited to begin this study with you! I have had a wonderful time preparing it over the last few days.
I prayed about what to write here and the Lord really laid it on my heart to share John chapter 4 with you. Praise God for His word!! He did not leave us alone here in His creation. He provided a way to the cool clean and peaceful waters for us to drink and be cleansed.
I prayed for each of you as you join in this study.
I pray the Holy Spirit will reveal new and exciting things in the Word of God to you.

Until next time..........
"Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."
Hebrews 10:22
Blessings,
Ruth
